Celebration Day 2020
The LIVE STREAM of our Celebration Day event on 5th November included 30 mins pre-show footage showing the ways that teachers and students have engaged with the program and prepared their performances of 'the 2020 Program Song 'You Won't Bring Us Down' in the lead up to Celebration Day. This occurred in the lead up to a 'count down' and 'big sing' which featured Program Song performances in English, Auslan, Wajarri languages, filmed from 3 different states across Australia.
NB This clip is a compilation of the schools footage.
PROGRAM BACKGROUND
'Music Count Us In' Celebration Day 2020 was broadly inspired by themes of Inclusivity, and Resilience. The 'Beauty of the Australian Landscape', the 'Importance of Language Preservation' and 'Caring for Country' also inspired performances, learning and our choice of Main Event locations.
Featured performances of the 2020 Program Song 'You Wont Bring Us Down' were livestreamed to hundreds of thousands of schools across Australia and were as follows:
'You Wont Bring Us Down' (English Language) - Performed from the Lagoon (The Esplanade), Cairns, QLD by Cairns schools - St Monica's College and Edge Hill State School, and conducted by Chris Burcin. Cairns Lord Mayor Bob Manning delivered an Acknowledgement of Country and 'Welcome' to schools across Australia.
'You Wont Bring Us Down' (Auslan Translation) - was performed from the Park Hyatt on Sydney Harbour waterfront, NSW by the Deaf Signing Choir of the RIDBC Thomas Pattison School and conducted by Melina Williams. NSW Governor, Her Excellency, the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC delivered an Acknowledgement of Country and paid tribute to the resilience of music teachers who have continued to 'make music' in their classrooms despite the impact and restrictions on singing and wind/brass instrument playing in schools due to Covid-19.
'You Wont Bring Us Down' - Indigenous Language (Wajarri) Translation - was performed from the riverbank of Ellendale Pool, Yamatji Country, WA by 4 local primary schools. These were Rangeway, Waggrakine, Beachlands and Allendale. Local Elders Graham Taylor and Gloria Fogarty delivered a Welcome to Country and shared site-associated knowledge, culture and stories with the children. This performance was conducted by Rachel Whealy (MCUI Program Manager).
Our deepest gratitude to all who made our 2020 Celebration Day so incredibly special.
