Perhaps you are shopping for watches online, let's say Omega or Breitling. You find that new Navitimer you have been looking for. It is available for sale in a watch shop that has many unworn or new watches. You think to yourself, "Why are these watches so cheap when Breitling sells them for almost twice as much? " Today, we discuss where these online sellers get unworn watches including Omega, Breitling, Graham, Girard Perregaux, Longines, and more!

There are some things to consider when purchasing new or unworn watches from grey market watch dealers. While I myself do sell preowned, there is a clear distinction between the two sellers (neither being good nor bad). Preowned dealers sell just that, majorly, used watches that have been serviced or condition to be worn and enjoyed. Preowned delivers some of the most value in watches, especially in modern times.

Grey market watch dealers obtain unworn watches from sources that simply need to move inventory. Whether brands like Omega, Breitling, Longines, and others need to get rid of extra inventory, or perhaps even a jewelry store goes out of business. Sometimes the watch industry looks down on this and sometimes they turn their head in exchange for keeping the numbers up for the public investors.


With grey market watches, there is nothing "wrong". If you trust the seller, their business, and read reviews about the watch dealer you can be entirely safe- and hey- everyone loves a great value in the watch world right?

Though, we should keep in mind that boutiques like Rolex, Hublot, Panerai, IWC, Piaget, Cartier, and others do serve a purpose. Namely, the experience in boutiques and some times ADs is typically phenomenal. Luxury watch boutiques provide for an outlet where the brand can romance the customer. When walking in certain luxury watch boutiques you are offered beverages, snacks, hand-held service, and also sometimes pretty ladies to smile at you and nudge you along in the process :)

In this video we also mention watch forum sellers, private parties and other forms of sellers. Once again, I am not advocating any particular source for purchasing a luxury watch. Everyone has their preference when it comes to this wonderful world of watch collecting and each person is entitled to their choices in life including the experience they wish to take home.
