Walt Disney Pictures releases The Muppet Christmas Carol - the fourth feature film to star The Muppets, the first distributed by Disney, and the first produced after the death of Muppets creator Jim Henson. The film is directed by Jim Henson's son Brian and stars Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge.

The Laugh-O-Gram silent black & white cartoon Cinderella is released. The short, based on Charles Perrault's classic, is directed, produced, written and co-animated by Walt Disney. (It is one of 6 fairy tales in Walt's Laugh-O-Gram series.)

The Disney World shop Tinker Bell's Treasures opens for business in the Fantasyland area of the Magic Kingdom.

The Lizzie McGuire episode "The Courtship of Miranda Sanchez" debuts on Disney Channel.

2015:
Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger presides over a ceremony to dedicate the newly restored office of Walt Disney in the Animation Building at the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank, California. Disney Parks guests have been able to see selections from Walt’s office suite over the years at One Man’s Dream (at Disney’s Hollywood Studios) and inside the Main Street Opera House(at Disneyland park), but the Walt Disney Archives painstakingly restored the suite (down to the smallest details) including original furnishings, his piano (frequently played back in the day by Disney Legend Richard Sherman), awards, and some items from his collection of miniatures.

Disney's Silly Symphony cartoon The Night Before Christmas is released. Loosely based on Clement C. Moore's classic poem, St. Nick is seen delivering the toys he made in the 1932 Santa's Workshop.

Walt Disney Pictures releases The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
On this same day, "Journey into Narnia: Creating the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," a theme park show debuts at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The attraction features a live appearance by the White Witch character and a display of several costumes from the film.

2009:
A rare 1932 Mickey Mouse Christmas card signed by Walt Disney sells at auction in Illinois for $13,987. The card - addressed to Chicagoan Henry Scherping - features the original version of Mickey and Minnie Mouse along with a note written less than a month after the cartoonist received his first Oscar.
Walt Disney sent out dozens of these Christmas cards, but this is the first one to ever surface.

Disney's Goofy short How to Be a Detective, directed by Jack Kinney, is released. Goofy is "Johnny Eyeball, Private Eye," a detective on a mission to solve a mystery.
