Dr. Raymond Stein of Bochner Eye Institute discusses strategies to manage keratoconus, a corneal disorder. Corneal crosslinking increases the number of bonds between collagen fibers in the cornea, strengthening the cornea to stop it from bulging outward. Topography-guided photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) uses laser energy to flatten areas of the corneal surface that are too steep and steepen areas that are too flat. By regularizing the surface of the cornea, vision can be improved.
