Описание: El Cajon Councilman Gary Kendrick, the longest serving Republican elected official in San Diego County, announced he is becoming a Democrat because "public safety is built on trust, not fear." He denounced hate toward immigrants and support by some council members of a resolution asking police to violate state law by supporting ICE deportation of people not convicted of any crime. He spoke of children afraid to go to school, pregnant women afraid to seek healthcare, and people afraid to report crimes for fear that they or a loved one could face arrest and deportation.
