"So on the day of the event for the Grito (Sept. 15), when she came out with the dress, it was an emotional moment for the family. My dad didn't know, nor did my brothers, I had only told my husband and my children. And when she came out with the dress, it was very emotional. Seeing her with the embroidery from Tlaxcala."

5. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Virginia Arce, textile artisan:
"Sometimes because it's us Indigenous people who work on all those textiles, some people underestimate us. And I believe she (Sheinbaum) is highlighting it (the craft) so that people appreciate it, and not because we are Indigenous or because we live in very remote villages, our pieces (are not appreciated.) Everything we do is art, and all artisans create wonders with their hands, with clay, with palm, with threads."
