Tennessee opened its 2025 season in commanding fashion Saturday afternoon, racing past Syracuse, 45-26, In the Aflac Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
The Vols struck quickly with 17 first-quarter points with a Max Gilbert 34-yard field goal on UT's opening drive, followed by Peyton Lewis punching in a 2-yard touchdown. The defense added to the lead moments later as Nathan Robinson forced a strip sack that transfer cornerback Colton Hood scooped and returned 22 yards for a score.
Joey Aguilar finished the day 16-28 with 247 yards and three touchdowns in his debut as a Vol. Arion Carter led the way with a team-high nine tackles including a sack and a tackle for loss.
