Explosions were heard in the early hours, with low-flying aircraft reported and black smoke rising from military installations, including Fuerte Tiuna, the country’s largest military complex. Power outages have also been reported across the city.

President Nicolás Maduro has activated national defence plans and declared a state of external disturbance, significantly expanding the role of the armed forces. Venezuela accuses the United States of “extremely serious military aggression” targeting civilian and military sites.

While the White House and Pentagon have not officially commented, U.S. media cite unnamed officials confirming American involvement. The FAA has banned U.S. flights over Venezuelan airspace, and Colombia has called for an emergency UN meeting.

Amid growing fear and confusion, global attention focuses on the possibility of further escalation in one of Latin America’s most dangerous geopolitical flashpoints.
