Episode 32: Finishing & Assembly - Decals & Signwriting
In Episode 32 of the Flatbed Felix Pedal Car Build, Vaughan walks us through the final details that need to be completed before assembly. Once everything is put together, the finishing touches like decals and signwriting are added to the outer body. This final episode really brings the build together—stand back and you’ll be amazed by the result.
Skills You'll Learn
Vaughan covers all the final prep work before assembly. This includes removing bolts from the powder-coated parts, peeling off masking tape, installing new steering bushes, and applying dash and temperature gauge decals. He then fits the grill and applies black SikaFlex.
Next comes the steering wheel—truly a standout feature. Vaughan demonstrates how to mask the freshly painted frame and carefully sand the wooden wheel until it’s perfectly smooth. He then applies several coats of lacquer to give it a polished finish, turning it into a true driver’s showpiece—something you’ll enjoy looking at and using for years to come.
Once everything is assembled, we bring in a professional signwriter to finish the wood panels, matching them to the original Flatbed Felix delivery truck—a nod to the Hare and Forbes legacy, which dates all the way back to 1930. It’s a fitting tribute to nearly 100 years of a proud, family-run business.
Now’s the time to take a step back and appreciate what you’ve built. Your dedication and craftsmanship have brought this project to life—well done! Congratulations on making it this far. We hope you’ve picked up a few new skills and, more importantly, that you’ve enjoyed the journey as much as we have.
If you're ready for more, we've also included full plans to build a matching trailer—perfect if you're up for the extra challenge.
Tools You'll Need
You’ll need a tape measure, ruler, square, pencil or marker, screwdriver, hex key set, drill with bits, and a countersink set. An orbital sander is also handy—a great bonus if you have one.
Always wear gloves, safety goggles, hearing protection, and full PPE when working.
