Built in 1929, Old Number One was the second Speed Six built and was done so specifically as a racecar. The chassis, number LB2332, was sent to the Racing Department to be thoroughly rebuilt and prepared for long-distance racing. For the car's entire race career (1929 - 1932) it was owned by either the factory or Woolf Barnato (the Chairman and majority shareholder of Bentley from 1926 - 1931) and was continually modified as such to keep the car as competitive as possible. Though the car saw much success during its racing career, it is perhaps best known for winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans outright in both 1929 and 1930. The Car was originally fitted with an open four-seat fabric body for Vanden Plas to meet 1929 Le Mans requirements, however later in the same year, a second shell was constructed by Vanden Plas for Brooklands racing. The bodies were changed as needed.
