Artificial Intelligence is set to transform the nature of warfare in the coming decades, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan said while speaking at the Raisina Dialogue. The CDS warned that future battlefields will increasingly be shaped by AI-driven systems, autonomous technologies and advanced data analysis. According to him, militaries around the world are rapidly integrating artificial intelligence into decision-making, surveillance, logistics and combat operations. Chauhan said India has begun taking small but important steps to build AI setups for the defence sector as part of its long-term military modernisation strategy. He emphasised that while AI will enhance operational efficiency and battlefield awareness, it also raises complex ethical and strategic questions. The CDS noted that India is working towards developing indigenous technologies and strengthening innovation ecosystems to remain competitive in the evolving global security landscape where artificial intelligence could become a decisive factor in future wars.
