Aerial footage of Mumbai captures something worth paying attention to — cleaner air above its forests and mangroves, visible haze above its concrete zones.
In December 2025, Mumbai's municipal authority received court approval to construct a 26-km coastal road that would affect over 45,000 mangroves along the city's western edge, with around 9,000 set for permanent removal.
Authorities have promised to plant 130,000 replacement saplings — but researchers say mangrove restoration fails more than half the time in urban settings.
Fisherfolk communities who depend on these waters for their daily livelihoods have raised concerns, and studies show Mumbai's sea levels have been rising at 4.5mm per year.
The question this raises: is a faster commute worth the ecological trade-off — and who actually pays the price when the trees are gone? Full coverage at karmactive.com.
