Gulf State Park in Alabama is home to the Hugh S. Branyon Back Country Trail. USA Today has voted the Branyon Trail the number one biking and walking trail in the Unites States for 2023. We found it was perfect for riding our recumbent tricycles.
The Branyon Back Country Trail is actually a collection of interconnected trails that span Gulf State park. Almost 35 miles of trail Criss-cross the park, and over 90% of them are paved. They offer an excellent, mostly flat, riding surface through forest, lake side, scrub and salt marsh areas. If you are lucky you might spot one of the resident alligators while you are peddling around!
We rode over 40 miles in two days in April 2023 and were able to take video on most of the trails. In this video you will see the name and length of each trail and a little about the ride on each. I hope our video will encourage you to ride this trail and let you know what to expect when you do.
I’ll be riding a Terra Tike Rover with a Bafang electric assist that I added. Phyllis will be in her new Terra Trike Charge, with factory installed electric assist. Just so you will know, E-Assist is just that. It provides assistance when you ride, but it does not do all the work for you. You still must peddle to ride!
