Is blindness a risk after laser vision correction?
Prof. Dr. Mahipal S. Sachdev explains that blindness after laser vision correction has virtually never been reported, except for extremely rare global cases, possibly linked to infection.
The risk of a permanent drop in best-corrected vision is less than 2–3 cases per 10,000 eyes. Even under-correction or over-correction is not considered vision loss, as it can be safely retreated. This highlights the high level of precision, safety, and effectiveness achieved in modern laser vision correction procedures.
