How can I start my IAS at home?
Follow the steps outlined below to kickstart your IAS preparation at home:
Understand the UPSC pattern and procedure first.
Go through the UPSC syllabus thoroughly.
Start reading a few books and watch video lectures online for a few basic subjects like polity, history, geography, etc.
Read the newspaper regularly.
How can I get selected in IAS?
The selection of candidates is based on the UPSC CSE Cut-offs released by the commission after the preliminary and main examination. Candidates who qualify in the preliminary examination can appear for the UPSC mains examination.

Which degree is best for IAS?
First of all, if you think that you want to be an IAS then I will suggest you to go for Bachelor In Arts. You can take majors Political science or sociology. This subjects help one to crack any government exams like UPSC, SSC CGL and State Public Comission Exams and RRB too.

There is no special uniform for IAS officers, they just have to wear formal clothes at the official events, but IPS have to wear their prescribed uniform. IPS uniforms change with rank. The IPS officer puts Ashok symbol on their shoulders

The basic salary of an IAS officer is Rs 56,100 as per 7th Pay Commission. In addition to the salary, an IAS officer is also given several other allowances, including Travel Allowance and Dearness Allowance. The basic per month salary of an IAS officer can go on to reach Rs. 2,50,000 for a Cabinet Secretary.
Is luck needed in UPSC?
So, it is not only your preparation that matters but also how others prepare, and that is out of your hands. In the UPSC prelims where there are MCQs, you can get lucky or unlucky with your guesses. In the IAS mains exam, a lot depends on the 'mood' of the examiner, and also on the nature of the examiner.
