10 Principles for Reading Scripture from Benedict XVI

Описание: After reading through Benedict XVI's post-synodal apostolic exhortation on the word of God in the life and mission of the Church, Verbum Domini, these ten principles stood out to me as important for approaching and interpreting scripture. I thought I would share them here with you in a video.

I separated them into four categories:
(A) The why behind approaching and reading scripture,
3:08 1. The faithful reading of scripture is an ongoing dialogue of love.
3:53 2. The word of God is where all man's desires will be illuminated, purified, and brought to fulfillment.
(B) the method for interpreting and reading scripture,
5:12 3. Call upon the Holy Spirit. "There is no authentic understanding of Christian revelation apart from the activity of the Paraclete" (15).
5:35 4. Read the Bible with faith and reason.
6:45 5. Rely on the living Tradition of the Church to interpret scripture
7:25 6. Walk with Jesus and have your eyes opened in the breaking of the bread.
(C ) the exemplars to imitate, and
9:15 7. Imitate the Blessed Virgin Mary's fiat and life.
10:44 8. Read and interpret scripture through the example of the saints who have truly lived the word of God and been transformed by it.
(D) the mission that comes from reading scripture.
11:25 9. Read scripture with a sense of responsibility
12:54 10. Read the scriptures to illumine the darkness.
