HILL: Well, Mr. Carnegie, we have come down to the last of the traits of a pleasing personality. What is it, Sir?
CARNEGIE: It is PERSONAL MAGNETISM. Let us be frank, at the outset, and say that personal magnetism is a polite way of describing sex energy, for that is precisely what it means. Now we need not evade the admission that sex energy is something with which an individual is born, and it therefore cannot be developed by personal effort.
Sex energy is nature’s own device with which she creates and perpetuates every living thing, from God’s smallest creature to his greatest handiwork, man. I see no reason, therefore, for subterfuge in connection with the analysis of sex emotion as one of the most important traits of personality, but I do see a reason for making it plain that this universal power adds attractive qualities to the personality only when it is controlled and used properly.
