A visit to this half-barrier level crossing near the village of Litlington, Cambridgeshire, just outside of Royston and on the very busy line up from the East Coast Main Line at Hitchin. Of the 39 remaining active half-barrier crossings with these now-rare and classic barriers (this particular pair dating back to 1970), this is definitely one of the most unique. Both alarms are very loud and fitted to the back of each assembly, but the quirk with the ones here is that they continue to sound for a few seconds after the barriers have dropped, about 25-26 seconds' worth of sounding time in total, as opposed to either stopping the moment the barriers have lowered or continuing right the way through until the lights extinguish. This is the only crossing I know of where this is the case!

I'd spent about an hour here in reality, but only filmed these four clips (plus one un-featured outtake), and some of them were quite quick-fire. I'd made sure to have my ears plugged in the third and fourth shots here for obvious reasons, but hopefully have pulled these videos off well! It's just a good thing that really fast, screechy alarm is in the middle of nowhere...
