On Monday, in the early hours after a major breakdown in the national grid caused a massive power outage in a #bankrupt #country . 

The #nationwide power outage, which occurred at 7.34 am #local time, lasted for hours and was said to have lasted for over 12 hours. It impacted #schools , #hospitals and #industrial units.

Soon after the power #breakdown , #poweroutage was trending on social media. Citizens blame the coalition #government led by Prime Minister #shehbazsharif for the failure. 

#energy Minister Khurrum Dastgir said that the outage was caused by a large voltage surge.

Pakistan lacks #resources to run its oil-and-gas-powered plants. The Pakistani government had recently ordered measures to conserve energy, including closing all malls and markets by 8:30 pm, as the country grappled with a crippling #power and #economiccrisis.

The cabinet-approved measures are expected to save the country about 62 billion #pakistani #rupees ($273m).
