"Peaceful Man", from July 1989 Live by the band, 'i.e.'

Recorded live, Saturday, July 15, 1989 8:30pm at the Allen Street Stage of the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, the last session and recording i.e. made, albeit a significant change in direction as if a new departure. Doug always had a penchant for Reggae, appeased here with a tune and (Apartheid protest) lyrics Zig wrote, "Peaceful Man", that Dave sings rather well.
While a claim of "...opening for Sonny Rollins..." would not be precisely accurate, considering the proximity of the Allen Street Stage to the Festival Shell and the relative times of the two performances, and how an audience member may traverse that space during those times, a comment of that sort wouldn't present too great a warp in the space-time continuum. Then again, "Peaceful Man" having Reggae influences - from Jamaica, relative to Rollins' "St. Thomas" - indicates some proximity... Adding a real eclectic flavor to an intentionally simple 1-4-1-5 progression in the Reggae style, Zig's accompaniment and soloing presents chord substitutions, alternate harmonies, and playing technique that resemble Bebop sensibilities.
Dave Conner, The singer, also plays bongos.
Suzie, tambourine.
Dave Bollinger, kit drums and Simmons.
Doug Dubroski, tenor sax.
'Cosmic' Ray Cromie, bass.
Keith 'Zig' Stewart, SIDnth I keyboard and percussion loop synthesizer, DDD-5 Drum Machine Programming.

Designed and built by Zig as a senior independent study project,
the SIDnth comprises four sockets each populated with the sound
generator chip found in the Commodore 64,
the 6581 Sound Interface Device (SID),
with an instruction-set compatible microprocessor, the 6502.
One can hear throughout this recording a SIDnth patch that
gave the SIDnth a reputation for an unique, original sound.
Zig programmed the joystick on the main console such that
the X-axis swept the bandpass filter pass band across the
spectrum while the Y-axis of the Joystick simultaneously
altered the pulse width outputted from the sound generators'
rectangular wave oscillators.
