What are the books to study for PSIR optional for UPSC?

My primary source for all the parts of the syllabus was Shubra Ranjan Mam's class notes and handwritten notes. These notes will give you a very good basic understanding of the entire subject as well as it is like curated according to the demand of the exam.

You need to make your own short notes out of that and in those notes you do your own value addition.

For value addition, you can refer to some different different sources. There is no need actually to read any book cover to cover. You can pick topics and you can do a Google search on them

For value addition, Indira Gandhi National Open university documents can be used. They are very good for this current affair related portions

Collect some examples with online resources. You can refer to Newspaper as well. Indian express and Hindu both have very good articles.

Reading of Lakshmikanth is a Must.

For Current Affairs: The Hindu, Indian Express, Articles of Observers Research Foundation, Publications of ministry of External Affairs, etc.

There is no fixed source just one source for basically knowledge and then keep adding value from wherever you can get good content. That’s the demand of this subject. It’s very dynamic. You need to have interest in the subject in order to be able to get content from current affairs.
