The ongoing Middle East conflict is now impacting the global economy and energy supply, with its effects being felt in India as well. Reports of an LPG cylinder shortage have started emerging from major cities like Mumbai and Jaipur, raising concerns among consumers and businesses.

To manage the situation and ensure uninterrupted supply of cooking gas, the Central Government has implemented the Essential Commodities Act (ESMA) across the country. Refineries and petrochemical units have been directed to maximize LPG production and divert key hydrocarbon resources to the LPG pool.

The Ministry of Petroleum has also formed a special committee to address the sudden shortage of commercial LPG gas, which is creating a serious crisis for the hotel and restaurant industry. Industry bodies have warned that if supply does not normalize soon, many food outlets may be forced to shut down.

Due to rising gas prices, people are now turning to induction cookers, leading to a sharp rise in their sales. Meanwhile, the government has also changed LPG booking rules to prevent hoarding and black marketing. Consumers will now be able to book a new LPG cylinder only after 25 days of the previous delivery, instead of the earlier 21-day gap.
