In 319 BC, the former regent of the empire Antipater would die, upon his death he transferred regency to the hands of his lieutenant, Polyperchon, as opposed to his own son Cassander. Cassander would rejected his father's decision and soon fell into civil war with Polyperchon. The war quickly spread among the successors with Polyperchon allying with Eumenes against Cassander and Antigonus.
