„Von guten Mächten wunderbar geborgen“ ist für mich eines dieser Lieder, die gerade zum Jahreswechsel eine besondere Tiefe bekommen. Wenn ein Jahr zu Ende geht und man noch nicht weiß, was das nächste bringt, tut es gut, sich getragen zu fühlen – auch dann, wenn nicht alles leicht oder planbar ist.

Der Text stammt von Dietrich Bonhoeffer, der diese Zeilen 1944 im Gefängnis geschrieben hat. Mich berührt daran besonders, dass diese Worte nicht aus einer sicheren Situation heraus entstanden sind, sondern mitten in Angst und Unsicherheit – und trotzdem voller Vertrauen.

Im Gotteslob findet sich das Lied unter der Nummer 430. Es wird oft am Jahresende gesungen oder in Momenten, in denen man bewusst innehalten möchte. Für mich ist es ein Lied, das sagt: Du gehst nicht allein – egal, was kommt.

Diese Aufnahme habe ich in der Liebfrauenkirche Siegburg-Kaldauen eingespielt.

“By gracious powers so wonderfully sheltered” is one of those hymns that speaks to me especially around the turn of the year. When one year comes to an end and the next is still full of unknowns, this music reminds me that trust and hope don’t depend on everything being easy or predictable.

The text was written by Dietrich Bonhoeffer in 1944 while he was imprisoned. What moves me deeply is that these words were born in a time of fear and uncertainty – and yet they carry such calm strength and confidence.

In the German Catholic hymnal Gotteslob, the hymn can be found as No. 430. It is often sung at the end of the year or at important transitions in life. For me, it feels like a quiet promise: You are not alone – whatever lies ahead.

I recorded this version in Liebfrauenkirche Siegburg-Kaldauen. The organ gives the melody space to breathe and invites you to pause for a moment – right between letting go of the past and stepping into something new.
