Last ride of NS ICR-carriages departs from Antwerp-Central Station

The NS ICR carriages (Intercity Rijtuig) entered service in 1980. They operated on many routes within the Netherlands, but also ran international services to cities such as Cologne (Köln), Luxembourg, and Brussels. They were also used on the “Benelux train” between Amsterdam and Brussels.
As of 15 December 2024, the ICR carriages were still in use on a few routes, including the Eurocity (Brussels – Rotterdam), Eurocity Direct (Brussels – Amsterdam South – Lelystad), and the Intercity service between Eindhoven and The Hague. Their final day in service was 4 October 2025, on the Eindhoven – The Hague route. Sadly, those carriages broke down between Rotterdam and Breda, officially bringing the ICR era to a close.
On 27 September 2025, a special farewell ride was organized. The train departed from Amsterdam and traveled to Belgium on the route: Amsterdam – Utrecht – Maastricht – Liège – Namur – Schaarbeek – Antwerp – Roosendaal – Rotterdam – Amsterdam.
