Sky News host Alan Jones says the case mounted against Lindy Chamberlain defies common sense and raises serious questions about how justice can be administered in Australia.
It is 40 years ago today that Lindy Chamberlain told the world that a dingo stole her baby.
A national scandal ensued which saw Ms Chamberlain imprisoned for three years before being released once new evidence emerged.
“I argued Lindy Chamberlain’s innocence from day one,” Mr Jones said.
“I simply said, I am saying what I believe because I have read everything about the case.
“Those who condemned this woman in the most wilful way should feel an overwhelming sense of shame for what they thought and did to an innocent, grieving mother.”
In 1992, the Australian government paid the Chamberlain’s $1.3 million compensation.
“Nothing could compensate Lindy Chamberlain for what she endured”.
