In this video, Dr. Jim Nicholson - MD MSCE, Family Physician and Expert in Term (37+ week) Pregnancy Management - explains that the 40-week standard of pregnancy length has not been updated since the 18th century (!), even though much evidence shows that for some women, an early term delivery (at 37+ weeks) may improve outcomes, not only for stillbirth, but also for NICU admission, emergency c-section, and more. As such, Dr. Nicholson advocates for a softening of the "39 Week Rule" standard which is currently in effect across much of the US.
