On the shortest day of the year, we headed into the forest for a little winter solstice dinner.
We decorated a small tree with edible ornaments—carrots, apples, and nuts—as gifts for the woodland creatures. (the string lights came home with us)
As the light faded, we warmed ourselves with pierogi and red borscht, surrounded by lanterns and the hush of the woods.
No talking, just a peaceful celebration of the turning season.
