Boolavogue tells the story of the 1798 Rising in County Wexford, when repression, executions, and brutality forced ordinary Irish people into resistance. Under the leadership of Father John Murphy of Boolavogue, farmers and labourers left their homes and marched toward Vinegar Hill, joining thousands who believed they had nothing left to lose.
This song is not about victory or romance, but about cause, consequence, and collective resolve. Sung in a restrained traditional style, it reflects the reality of the rising — fear, unity, faith, and sacrifice — rather than myth-making or spectacle.
A nationalist ballad that points to history and lets the listener judge for themselves.
