Port Arthur and Orange County Emergency Services District 3 trained for public safety diving.
There are eight divers between the two groups. Joshua Resweber is the captain and dive team commander for Port Arthur. He says diving is harder than it looks.
"It's not like going out and diving in pretty water," Resweber said.
James Mahan taught the divers the advanced course.
To remove a sunken truck, the team used bags they filled with air to pull it out of the water.
Mahan says the same technique is used to recover bigger ships, like the Concordia.
"The bags can pick up vehicles, barges, whatever. It just depends on the size of the bag and what you're trying to pick up," Mahan said.
Mahan says public safety diving more dangerous than scuba diving due to the lack of visibility underwater.
"Down there, you can't see nothing in front of you face," Resweber said.
Lieutenant Dru Crochet of Orange County Emergency Services District 3 agreed.
"It's pitch black. You don't know up,down, or sideways," said Crochet.
The team recovered a truck and will train for body recovery Sunday.
