The Trump DOJ used the FACE Act to arrest journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort by falsely claiming they were involved in a church protest rather than reporting on it. Judges and career prosecutors previously refused to authorize warrants, citing a lack of evidence, but federal authorities bypassed those objections through a grand jury. Georgia Fort was taken from her home while her children were present, and Lemon was arrested while working as a journalist. The case exposes a deliberate misuse of federal law to criminalize journalism and target the Black press.
