Domestic abuse is very serious and long-lasting physical, emotional and spiritual harm can, and often does, occur. Each and every act of domestic abuse needs to be taken seriously. It is also cross-generational, affecting any children in the family. Fear, lack of safe options, threats of harm, including death to the victim and/or children and the inability to survive economically prevent many victims from leaving abusive relationships.

It is important that we understand how to support victims without causing further harm and so that they can heal from their trauma.

Questions that we try to answer in this discussion:
Why do women stay in abusive situations?
What does abuse do to a person's identify? How does this affect their ability to function normally in society? How did this affect their ability to practice Bhakti-yoga?
What are the normal reactions to the abusive behaviour? How to avoid gaslighting yourself or allow others to gaslight you about your experience?
What PTSD and cPTSD? How victims of Domestic Abuse develop these conditions or how are they manifested? What are the signs that someone has in the past or is presently suffering from Domestic abuse?
What are the long term effects of domestic abuse?

How can individuals help victims?
How can communities help victims?
Why and how to stop victim blaming?
What does our sastra say about abuse of women and protection of women? (Can we address some of the statements that justify abuse through sastra)
