In this video, I discuss how SPACs work, and how they have evolved as an interesting alternative to the more traditional IPO route for taking a company public.

A SPAC (Special Purpose Acquisition Company) is a shell company or "blank check company" that is used to raise capital and then merge with a private company, in order to bring it public.

Prominent examples include Nikola, DraftKings, and Virgin Galactic.

The SPAC space has recently fallen on hard times, with many SPACs trading close to or even below their NAV ($10). This creates an interesting opportunity for those who are willing to dig down into each SPAC, examine the quality of the sponsor/management team, and weigh the risk/reward of the investment, given that $10 is a floor for most SPACs.
