But this device didn’t start as a computer.
It started as a brick.
To understand how smartphones took over the world, we have to go back to a time when the idea of a “mobile phone” barely made sense.
In the beginning, phones didn’t move.
They lived on walls and desks. You went to the phone. The phone never went with you.
So when the first mobile phones appeared in the 1970s and 1980s, they weren’t designed to be personal. They were designed to be possible.
