Three criminals were arrested during a special operation conducted on Wednesday afternoon near Subhashnagar crossing, adjacent to Berhampore. The suspects had planned to meet at Berhampore and travel to Domkal, but their plan failed midway due to police intervention.

During the operation, police recovered two 7mm firearms, four empty magazines, 300 rounds of ammunition, and fake currency worth ₹10,000. The arrested individuals have been identified as Kausar Ali, Rafikul Mondal, and Sakirul Sheikh. Rafikul Mondal is a resident of Islampur, while Sakirul Sheikh and Kausar Ali are residents of Sagarpada police station area.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the weapons and ammunition were brought from Sahibganj in Jharkhand, allegedly to carry out illegal activities across Domkal and other parts of Murshidabad. On Thursday, the accused were produced before the Berhampore Court, where police sought 10 days of custodial remand. Murshidabad Additional Superintendent of Police Majid Iqbal Khan confirmed that the operation was carried out by the Special Operation Group.

Meanwhile, crackdowns continue in Hariharpara as well. In separate raids, police recovered three firearms and 11 rounds of ammunition. On January 12, Hariharpara police arrested Sabir Hossain Mondal with one firearm and two rounds of ammunition. Based on his interrogation, Asgar Sheikh (26) of Baharan Southpara was later arrested, and another firearm with eight rounds was recovered. Further interrogation led to the recovery of one more firearm and one round of ammunition on Wednesday night.
