Children still find kaleidoscopes fascinating - even more so if they are shown how to make one themselves. The difficult part is to allow the small pieces of coloured filter room to move around without escaping.
This design uses cheap materials such as pieces of polythene, carrier and bin bag and card. If the ends of the finished kaleidoscope are sealed-up with insulating tape will last several year.
I've made this design with Yr4/5/6.
I can supply the folded mirror, the ring spacer and colour filter in three colours (you will probably wish to source more colours elsewhere).
