The U.S. General Services Administration launched the Design Excellence Program in 1994, as an initiative to improve the design quality of new projects developed by the Public Buildings Service. The effort categorically reversed a decades-long trend of uninspired building in the federal realm. "Of Our Time: Changing the Course of Federal Architecture" recounts the history and achievements of the Design Excellence Program, through interviews with some of America's top architects.
