I successfully zinc plate my parts and fasteners with a basic DIY electroplating setup. No exotic ingredients are needed, just common household materials that can easily be found. Even the required power supply is an item you most probably already have!
We make up the plating solution with vinegar and salt, go through the process to charge it with zinc ions, look at preparing parts for plating, discuss current requirements, plating times and even the possible use of a kitchen ingredient that can be used as a brightening chemical.
