Ready to visit Bandelier National Monument? Here are five things to add to your trip itinerary at this Southwest gem. Pro tip: Arrive early to beat the crowds and snag a parking spot.

1. Hike the Main Pueblo Loop Trail. This 1.4-mile trail takes you through archaeological sites filled with petroglyphs and alcoves that can be reached by the ladders placed throughout the trail. Most visitors can complete this trail in less than an hour.

2. Hike the Falls Trail. This is a 3-mile out-and-back trail leading to views of the Upper Falls. It’s also a great way to spot the various wildlife of Bandelier. A more difficult hike than the Pueblo Loop, this trail isn’t accessible to wheelchairs and strollers.

3. Tour the Visitor Center. Learn about Bandelier’s rich history at the national monument’s visitor center. Explore artifacts, read about volcanic eruptions that carved the landscape of this area, and much more.

4. Grab lunch. Sirphey’s Café is a great place to grab a bite to eat and pick up a souvenir. Whether you’re fueling up for a big hike or refueling after hitting the trails, this is a great place to grab a burger and relax.

5. Drive or Hike the Tsankawi Section. Hike the Tsankawi Trail or drive through this section of the park using Highway 502. This area is riddled with cave dwellings, petroglyphs, and volcanic rocks.
