Ghana’s National Service Secretariat (NSS) will begin a six-week voluntary Basic Military Orientation Programme on August 31, 2025, with a pilot batch of 10,000 personnel.
The training—organized in partnership with the Ghana Armed Forces—aims to promote discipline, leadership, patriotism, and emergency response skills among graduates. Officials stress it’s not compulsory and not full military training, but a civic exercise under the National Service Act, 2024 (Act 1119).
Participation will not affect service placements, and the initiative forms part of government efforts to develop more resilient, service-minded youth to aid national development and disaster response.
