Education Ministry addresses NEHU deadlock; NEHUTA rejects VC’s return

Описание: The North-Eastern Hill University Teachers' Association (NEHUTA) announced that the Union Ministry of Education is actively working to resolve the ongoing deadlock at NEHU. The Ministry is currently reviewing a report submitted by a two-member inquiry committee tasked with examining the situation.

NEHUTA recently met with Additional Secretary Sunil Kumar Barnwal and Director Subrat Kumar Pradhan from the Department of Higher Education to discuss the crisis. NEHUTA President Prof. Lakhon Kma expressed the association’s commitment to restoring normalcy on campus and confirmed that the Ministry is formulating measures to address the issue, although no decisions have been finalised.

Prof. Kma also noted that Ministry officials are separately engaging with the NEHU Students’ Union (NEHUSU) and the NEHU Non-Teaching Staff Association (NEHUNSA) to gain a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced.

While the situation remains fluid, Prof. Kma stated that more clarity is expected once the Ministry completes its assessment. He firmly reiterated NEHUTA’s opposition to the reinstatement of current Vice Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, calling it an unacceptable solution. He added that the Ministry appears to have already decided its next course of action.
