In 2010, Hispanics represented 16.3 percent of the U.S. population, but they accounted for
20 percent of the total number of reported U.S. AIDS cases. Over the last decade many
southeastern states more than doubled their Hispanic population. In light of the national
comprehensive HIV planning initiative, prevention strategies must address the needs of diverse Hispanic populations. Program faculty will discuss Hispanic immigrant demographics specific to the South, and culturally relevant HIV programs and prevention models.
