Earlier today train 6614's equipment failed between Smithtown and St. James, which shut down a portion of the branch until a rescue engine could arrive. About an hour later, the next Eastbound train 6650 made its revenue stop at Smithtown, and received orders to couple to the disabled train ahead and tow them back into Smithtown station. The equipment was dropped off at the platform so passengers could board train 6650, which circled around the disabled set and continued East to Port Jeff. Moments later rescue engine 164 arrived to drag the set back to the shops, and I ended up chasing them to a spot just East of DUKE just for the fun of it.
Catching these rescue moves has become pretty routine for me lately, too bad this one didn't have another startup sequence...
