رودکی این شعر را در قرن چهارم هجری برای بازگرداندن امیر نصر سامانی به بخارا سرود؛ شعری که آن‌قدر اثرگذار بود که امیر پس از شنیدن آن، تصمیمش را رها کرد و به بخارا بازگشت.
امیر نصر سامانی از پادشاهان مهم دودمان سامانی بود؛ حاکمی که با حمایت از شعر و دانش، دربار بخارا را به یکی از مرکزهای بزرگ فرهنگی جهان ایرانی تبدیل کرد.

Rudaki composed this poem in the 10th century to bring Emir Nasr of the Samanid dynasty back to Bukhara — a poem so powerful that, after hearing it, the Emir abandoned his plans and returned home.

Emir Nasr was one of the notable rulers of the Samanid dynasty, a patron of culture and literature whose court in Bukhara became one of the great intellectual centers of the Persian world.
