Fixed Orthodontic Treatment for Class III Malocclusion: Camouflage vs. Surgery!

Описание: Class III malocclusion is one of the most challenging malocclusions to treat, especially in non-growing patients. Fixed orthodontics alone can help in some instances, depending on the severity and skeletal vs. dental components of the malocclusion.

✅ Main Options for Class III Malocclusion Treatment with Fixed Appliances:
1. Dental Compensation (Camouflage Treatment)
Used when skeletal discrepancy is mild to moderate and the patient is non-growing.

Goal: Compensate with tooth movements without correcting the skeletal base.

Methods:

Upper incisor proclination

Lower incisor retroclination

Class III elastics (from lower molars to upper canines or premolars)

Inter-arch mechanics with fixed appliances (0.022 slot appliances are typical)

Use of TADs (Temporary Anchorage Devices) to achieve lower incisor retraction or distalization

Arch coordination and settling

2. Growth Modification (if patient is still growing)
Combine fixed appliances with:

Facemask therapy (Reverse pull headgear) (Reverse chin Cap)

Chin cup (less common)

Rapid Maxillary Expansion (RME) + Facemask in early mixed dentition

This is effective when diagnosed and started early (pre-pubertal).

3. Surgical-Orthodontic Treatment
