The mammalian genome refers to the complete set of genetic material (DNA) present in the mammalian cell. Genetic material in prokaryotes and eukaryotes is the DNA. In human diploid cell approximately 2 meters long DNA (or about 2.2 meters) is packed in a nucleus of only about 10 micrometers (μm)

In mammals, DNA is organized in a highly compact, regulated, and functional manner inside the nucleus to ensure proper storage, replication, transcription, and inheritance of genetic information.

Organization of Eukaryotic DNA
1. In eukaryotic cells, DNA is organized with proteins to form Nucleosomes, which condenses to form Chromatin and with further condensation form Chromosomes.
