Paying tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II | 4K

I remember that day. I was working and asked to leave earlier. It was the last day before the late Queen Elizabeth's funeral. I felt I should go. I am not British but have been living in London for 15 years. However, all that time I built a connection with Brits, history, and culture. I could say I was a part of this great nation and the moment was historical. After 70 years on the throne, the Queen has taken her way to eternity. I felt sad and as though something had crashed down from my heart. Instinctively I knew the world had changed on the day Queen Elizabeth died. So I wanted to be a part of that historical moment and I joined the queue to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.
Firstly I arrived near Tower Bridge because I thought the crowd would be less than in previous days and that was possible to join earlier. But the line was so long and I had to go to the starting point in Bermondsey, Southwark Park where I got a wristband and started my journey up to Westminster Hall.

The atmosphere was sombre and reverent, with thousands of people lined up along the designated route, all united by a shared respect and a deep sense of loss.

The route itself was remarkable, and as we slowly made our way along the South Bank of the Thames, we passed some of London’s most iconic landmarks. Tower Bridge stood tall, almost like a silent sentinel, watching over the procession.

As we continued along the path, which took hours but felt almost timeless, there was this unspoken bond between everyone. I didn’t know the people around me, but there was this sense that we were all a part of history together. It wasn’t just about honoring the Queen’s life, but also about reflecting on her role in so many of our lives. Strangers shared stories, offered water, and kept each other company during the long wait.

When we finally approached Westminster Hall, where the Queen lay in state, the atmosphere shifted even more. The air was heavy with emotion. Many bowed their heads, some held back tears, while others wept openly. Walking into that hall, I was overwhelmed by the quiet dignity of the moment—the solemnity, and the history that surrounded us. Seeing the Queen’s coffin, draped in the royal standard, surrounded by the silent, watchful guards in Westminster Hall, brought a lump to my throat. It was the end of an era.

The wait had been long, but it didn’t matter. Every step felt like a tribute to her life and service. It was a privilege to be there, to stand among so many who felt the same profound respect. Even though I didn’t personally know her, it felt like saying goodbye to someone who had always been a part of our world.
