Not Just a Tapestry | Bayeux - Seas the Day (Ep 35)

Описание: This week we wanted to go to see Bayeux. Somewhere that is known all throughout the world as the famous home of the tapestry, but surely the was more to Bayeux than the tapestry and we were right.

There are three museums in Bayeux, we have actually seen the tapestry before, so we weren’t going to have a look at it this time, but exploring the unseen side of Bayeux was way more fun. Theres a beautiful little river running through the town which would have made it an important place dating all the way back to 1st century BC. Ancient Roman baths were found under the cathedral and also what is now the post office but have since been destroyed. Now, under the cathedral all we could find was the crypt with its beautifully painted ceilings that have been so well preserved over the years as its underground and has no natural sunlight.

From the cathedral, we took a walk to the park dedicated to General Charles de Gaulle where he famously made a speech a few days after D-Day stating he was on the side of the allies and Free France as opposed to the Germans.

Its a beautiful place, and should you get a chance to visit Bayeux, make sure you see more of the town than just the tapestry.
