In Bhubaneswar, Odisha, the Odisha Vigilance Directorate uncovered one of its largest ever cash seizures, recovering around ₹4 crore in unaccounted currency from the residence of Deputy Director of Mines, Debabrata Mohanty, after he was caught accepting a ₹30,000 bribe from a licensed coal vendor; officials described how the notes were found scattered “like grains of paddy” throughout his flat in trolley bags and almirahs during a disproportionate assets investigation and simultaneous raids at multiple locations linked to him, prompting further probe into the origin and legality of the cash hoard. Vigilance sources said this marks the highest-ever single cash recovery in the agency’s history, highlighting intensifying anti-corruption actions in the state as authorities catalog additional assets and pursue legal action under the Prevention of Corruption framework.
