Tommy Emmanuel - Windy & Warm / Chet Atkins & Jerry Reed - Sneakin' Around (Fingerstyle Mash-Up)

Описание: Mashing up two instrumentals in A-minor that were both played by Chet Atkins, ascribing Windy & Warm to Tommy Emmanuel, who in this day and age is its best known purveyor, and ascribing Sneakin' Around to Chet and Jerry Reed, who recorded it in 1991 on the Grammy winning album of the same name.

Tommy is famous for introducing Windy & Warm as the song that inspired him to take up guitar when, as a youngster in Australia, he heard it on the radio and said to himself, I want to play just like that. And does, and how! John Loudermilk wrote Windy & Warm for Chet Atkins, Doc Watson did a well known version, but in 2023, it's one of Tommy's signature songs.

Jerry Reed wrote an ungodly number of songs, many of them for Chet, but Sneakin' Around was not one of them -- it was composed by R.L. Kass (aka Robert Lee Castleman) who as far as I can tell is otherwise unknown. Kass had given Chet a demo of the song at a guitar workshop in Connecticut and he liked it enough to record it with Reed.

I learned Sneakin' Around some years ago and performed it at Fur Peace Ranch (not well), thinking Reed had written it. I learned Windy & Warm a few months ago after hearing Tommy play it on Cayamo 2023. I couldn't help but notice the similarities between the two pieces, and noted the Chet connection, and I'm a sucker for mash-ups, so here it it.

The second verse of the Sneakin' Around is my own variation on the theme, and now I see how similar it is to the first variation of W&W (and lots of other songs too BTW). Just makes for a better mash-up, right?

Recorded on the back deck at Lake Naomi using Motiv Video on a Samsung S22 Ultra smart phone with a Shure MV-88+ mic attached to it. Video was edited in Adobe Premiere Elements after some processing in Handbrake. Audio was processed in Audacity -- added some reverb and compression. Guitar is a Flammang EL-35.
